| Product Description: | An erect, glabrous, much-branched herb, up to 1 m high, armed with sharp axillary spines. Leaves 1.2-14 x 1-6.3 cm, ovate, lanceolate or rhomboid, mucronate at apex; petioles up to 9 cm long, sometimes larger than the blade. Flowers in axillary clusters or terminal spikes, green, lower clusters or spikes bearing only female flowers. Bracts and bracteoles awned, bracteoles shorter than bracts. Tepals 5, with a green midrib and scarious margins. Capsule with a thickened top, ovoid-urceolate. Seeds compressed, black. |
